The Synergy Centre, http://www.synergycentre.ie/index.php, holds a monthly series of thought-sparking breakfasts at IIT (Institute of Technology Tallaght). Its May topic was looking at raising finance from an investee and investor perspective. There were 2 speakers, see profiles below.
Zamano, http://www.zamano.com/, is already established as a successful Irish software provider – turnover already in the region of €40m in less than 10 years. Zamano is an excellent model for any start-up IT entrepreneur or the more mature company looking to achieve the next level of expansion and growth.
4th Level Ventures, http://www.4thlevelventures.ie/aboutus.html, is a specialist Venture Capital fund focused on commercializing technology from research through 3rd level institutions. The presentation below is Drew O’ Sullivan’s, Investment Manager at 4th Level. The criteria to acquire funding from 4th Level is vigorous and extraordinarily demanding. That’s not to say that start-ups with less ambitious plans or market opportunity will not be successful. The presentation only reflects the criteria for 4th Level Ventures funding. They have had quite a few successes already.

This morning, the Synergy Centre IT Tallaght, hosted one of its monthly thought-sparking breakfasts in its Juice series. The series is aimed at bringing industry experts, successful entrepreneurs, and buddging entrepreneurs together to share ideas and experiences.
The event starts with coffee and pastries and networking, followed by presentations, Q&A, wrap-up and more networking. Many of the M50 clients are attendees - some at the very early stage of developing their business concept.
The Synergy Centre itself is another great centre sponsoring innovation and entrepreneurship in the city. They also run another series - Brown Bag Lunches: a one hour pitch, Q&A and information exchange.

The story of Canada’s digital media sector Today, (30th April) at the Digital Exchange, Aslin Unlusoy, Trade Commissioner and Vice Consul, at the Canadian Embassy here in Dublin gave us an excellent presentation and introduction and background to Canada’s digital landscape. It’s a good story, started more than ten years ago with foresighted government polices that invested in education and promoted the study of maths, technology and the sciences in school.

It seems appropriate enough to write a blog on business blogging having attended yesterday’s IIA breakfast seminar! It was aimed at newbies to the world of blogging focusing on the key points of blogging and the 3 presenters own case studies and experiences. A lot of good information and tips to get one started.
